Happy YOGA day!

It’s International Yoga Day!

Not gonna lie… If you had asked me a couple years ago if I was a fan of yoga I probably would have laughed. With my upbeat personality and nonstop talking I thought yoga was NOT for me. My sophomore year of high school I was introduced to practicing yoga in my conditioning class over a youtube video. Every Friday we would get to do yoga and I found myself becoming fond of it. A little while down the road and I have now incorporated yoga into my weekly schedule.

I began to realize that my body deserved it. My mental state deserved it. Especially now with college and all of my jobs. I deserve to take an hour every week and put ALL of my focus on my breath and relaxation. I personally go to a yoga class and I find that it is the best place for me to practice yoga. I am absolutely not an expert on yoga so I enjoy having someone to walk me through and show me the correct form. The class I attend is called Restore and Recover at cycle you. It takes place every Thursday at 6:20 and is about 45ish minutes long. Peyton that leads the class is super chill and is so so good at working with beginners(AKA ME). It takes place in an intimate setting, the mats are provided, you just have to show up and relax. It just so happens that todays class is taking place on yoga day!!! HOLA

SO, how can you incorporate yoga into your life?

  • Like I mentioned earlier there are Youtube videos for all different types and levels of yoga. I’ll link a couple right here that I personally like:

-Here’s day one of a 30 day yoga challenge that would be super fun to try out. click here!!

-This one is yoga for beginners! And it was filmed on the beach so it’s soooo pretty. click here!!

  • Go to a group yoga class! If you are in the Lexington area I am of course going to recommend cycle you ! The first class is FREE so you seriously have no reason not to go. They are offered at different times throughout the week so hop on over to the website and sign up for your first class! You can also look up places that are in your personal city and find one that works for you.
  • Mommas, you can get your kids involved. I had the privilege to work with Katie Scherrer the author and founder of Stories, Songs and Stretches. She uses yoga to aid in children’s physical literacy, early literacy, and social-emotional development. Be sure to check her out on insta @katiescherreryoga , Twitter @connectedkatie, and online at katiescherreryoga.com
